22d- London May 5th- 1773 Cloe
I write two lines to My dear Ward just to ʃay
I got hers from Canterbury & I am quite well
thank God again. I propose sending you a Dog
by the Coach to morrow which I hope you'll
like her Name is Cloe[1] & I am told she
dances & plays many tricks but I'll leave
that for you to find out, I had a Puppy
of my own Dog for you but a horse broke
its Leg so I was oblig'd to drown it, and
a Lady gave me this one for you, if you
write soon derect under Cover to the Earl
of Panmure Chesterfield Street May fair
London as His Lordship will always know

family leave this to morrow for Scotland

Letter Description
Summary: Letter from William Napier, 7th Lord Napier, to Mary Hamilton. He intends to
send Hamilton a dog by the coach the following day which she hopes she
likes. Napier has been told that the dog dances and does 'many tricks' but
that he will leave her to find this out. He continues that he had a puppy
from his own dog for her but it broke its leg and he was 'oblig[e]d to drown
it'.
