      Monday

My Dear Miʃs Hamilton

      I beg you to deliver the enclosed to Princeʃs Elizabeth; I
receiv'd yours yesterday, & shall take care that Genl Carpenter &
the two Gentlemen Ushers find the Refreshments of Tea Coffee
&c: according to his Majesty's Commands. You will hear but
an indifferent Account of the healths of some here from Pʃs Elizth.;
as to my own it is very well thank God, but I cannot help feeling
more lowneʃs than usual at the Entire closing of this Melan-
-cholly Scene, wch. is to take place by the removal of the dear
little Child[1] that is now to be so soon.  ------------ Adieu  ------ my dear Miʃs Hamilton
remember me kindly to Melle. Moula & believe me

      Mr Guiffardiere is this Moment arrived & tells me I may order Supper for

do, as I think it would be more acceptable. pray thank Pʃs Elizh for her Letter.

Letter Description

Summary: Letter from Charlotte Finch to Mary Hamilton. She has received Hamilton’s letter yesterday and writes that she will ensure that General Carpenter and the other two men will have the refreshments of tea, coffee and so on, as the King commands. Finch writes that her health is good but that the ‘melancholy scene w[hi]ch is to take place by the removal of the dear little child' [Prince Alfred died in 1782 aged 2 years] has affected her spirits.
    Dated at Lower Lodge [Windsor].
